Donald Douglas (actor, 1905)
Donald Douglas (born August 24, 1905 in Scotland , † December 31, 1945 in Los Angeles ; actually Douglas Kinleyside ) was a British actor.
Life
Donald Douglas appeared several times on New York's Broadway from 1927 to 1936 and was seen for the first time in a film alongside Erich von Stroheim in 1929 in Der große Gabbo ( The Great Gabbo ) . Numerous roles in Hollywood films by small production companies followed. From the mid-1930s he also worked for large film studios such as MGM , 20th Century Fox and Columbia Pictures , where he mostly only received small supporting and extras roles. In the role of a lawyer he was also seen in Charles Vidor's film noir Gilda at the side of Rita Hayworth , with whom he had already appeared in front of the camera for the two Columbia B films Special Inspector and Convicted in 1938 .
While he often played good but pale characters in films, such as the police lieutenant in Murder, My Sweet (1944), he was able to prove his versatility on the radio. In the radio play mystery series Black Castle in 1943 he took on all roles, including that of the announcer. He died in Los Angeles in 1945 at the age of only 40 from complications during an appendix operation . His grave is in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale .
