The Evangelical Lutheran village church Bäbelin is a listed church building in Bäbelin , a district of Züsow in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ). It is one of the churches of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Community of Greater Ticino in the Wismar Propstei, Mecklenburg Church District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany .

History and architecture

Prince Johann I von Mecklenburg awarded Bishop Brunward von Schwerin ten hooves in Bäbelin on February 11, 1232 and on May 21, 1236 the bishop then awarded the entire village of Döbelin to Sonnenkamp monastery in Neukloster . Since then, Bäbelin has remained a monastery village until it joined the Domanial Association of the Neukloster Office in the middle of the 16th century and was a branch church of Neukloster from 1568.

The Bäbeliner Church, built in the 15th century, is a small two- bay hall building. Parts of the masonry are made of field stone , window and door frames , buttresses and some connecting surfaces are made of brick . The foundation is made of field stone. The choir in the east closes on five sides, it is derived from a dodecagon . The supporting pillars are kept simple. The southern return portal shows beveled edges. The interior of the church is covered with a flat beam and board ceiling.

An extensive restoration of the church took place from 1995 to 1996, for which funds from the EU and the German Foundation for Monument Protection were made available. The regional bishop Hermann Beste consecrated the church again on October 6, 1996.

The previous tower was completely demolished in 1872 and replaced by the transverse rectangular west tower in the form of a porch. The basement is made of field stone, the low, paneled upper floor is made of brick. The transversely disposed gable roof with a verschieferten roof turret crowned.
