Today's Protestant village church Behren-Lübchin is a late Romanesque-early Gothic stone church in Behren-Lübchin in the Rostock district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It belongs to the parish of Basse-Walkendorf in the Rostock provost in the Mecklenburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany (Northern Church) .

History and architecture

The village church of Behren-Lübchin is a late Romanesque, partly early Gothic stone church from the 13th century. The retracted choir, which is covered inside with a domed vault with stitch caps from the 18th century, is closed with a semicircular apse with a three-sided roof. The mighty, square west tower with an octagonal upper floor is probably younger than the nave and was provided with a flat hood with a lantern in the second half of the 18th century . The weather vane is designed as a bear, the heraldic animal of the von Behr family .

The sacristy on the north side of the choir was built in 1780. In the west there is a simple, pointed arched portal made of brick. The arched windows were subsequently extended. Inside, a pointed triumphal arch separates the choir from the flat-roofed nave. Remnants of a painted square network have been preserved on the plaster. A restoration took place from 1970 to 1972.

Furnishing

The main field of the altarpiece from 1712 shows a carved crucifixion group in front of a painted background, which is flanked by figures of Moses and Paul . The risen Christ is depicted with angels in the blown gable . The predella shows the Lord's Supper . There are richly decorated openings on the side. The pulpit dates from the 19th century.

The organ with a prospect in neo-Gothic shapes is a work by Friedrich Hermann Lütkemüller from 1863 with seven stops on a manual and pedal . A side gallery was built in the 18th century.

Numerous liturgical vessels are part of the equipment. Mention should be made of two silver-gilt goblets from the years 1746 and 1752; the latter was renewed in 1924 on the bowl and shaft. One silver-gold-plated paten dates from 1681, two more from the 18th century. A silver-gold-plated sick cup was made in 1764. Two oval silver wafer boxes were also made in the 18th century. A silver baptismal bowl was created in 1681.

Two gravestones were set for Heino von Behren († 1695) and for G. Groeben and wife in the 18th century. A bell from 1435 with a foundry mark is tuned to tone b 1 -2.

To the east of the choir is a figure of Christ after Thorvaldsen in cast zinc, which was probably made at the end of the 19th century. The churchyard portal was built in 1780 on strong brick pillars in the axis of the choir.
