The Dorfkirche Chemnitz is a Gothic stone church in Chemnitz , a district of the municipality of Blankenhof in the Mecklenburg Lake District . It belongs to the Wulkenzin-Breesen parish of the Neustrelitz Propstei , Mecklenburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany .

Construction and history

The church was consecrated in 1305 by Bishop Heinrich von Cammin under the patronage of Saints Mary and Catherine . The building in the Romanesque-Gothic transition style is a hall church with no distinction between choir and nave. It has no vault, but a flat beamed ceiling. The eastern end is flat and has a triple lancet window . On the south side there is a portal with a simple granite wall . A sacristy was built on the north side . The church tower dates from the 18th century; on it you will find a wind vane in the shape of a hen.

The west wall and the windows in the nave were replaced at a later time. The wooden tower tower in the west has a hexagonal pointed helmet with one of three church bells and probably dates from the 18th century. The other two church bells were melted down during World War I and World War II.

In the Middle Ages parish church, Chemnitz church has been a branch church since 1575 , first from Wulkenzin to 1721, then from Weitin to 1808 and from Mölln to 1872; since then she has been part of Breesen .

Furnishing

Interior, view of the altar

The impression of space inside the church is a result of the neo-Gothic renovations of the 19th century. The altarpiece is similar to that in the Althof chapel .

Several coats of arms of the patronage families von Klinggräff and von Lützow on the parapet of the organ gallery come from the patronage stalls that no longer exist.

In the church there is a winter church, which is used for church services in winter, as it is easier to heat.

During the renovation of the interior of the church, the church was equipped with a new electric bench heater and new lamps in 2018. In addition, the entire painting of the church was cleaned and completely renewed in some places.

The church has an organ by Carl Noebe from 1845 with 6 registers . This organ was renovated in 2002 by Rainer Wolter from Zudar on Rügen.
