description

The late Romanesque hall church from the 13th century burned down in 1718 and was rebuilt using older remains from the eastern part of the building. The nave , which is provided with a slate-covered gable roof , has a retracted square choir tower with an eight-sided top, which carries a bulbous hood on which an open lantern sits. A semicircular apse is attached to it. The spatial impression is determined by a massive cone with a small window above the east wall. The pulpit altar that once existed was removed in the 1950s. On the parapets of the two-story galleries , four scenes from the Old Testament are depicted on the north side and those from the New Testament on the south side . In an earlier renovation, the ornaments painted around the pictures were painted over. On the upper west gallery two pictures can still be seen in part, the middle one is covered by the organ front. The present organ was built by Georg Emil Müller in 1898 and overhauled in 2006. The pulpit that stands at the side today shows Christ and the four evangelists . A cartridge above the west entrance names 1960 as the time when the last renovation was completed. In 1964, a lightning strike damaged the tower, which resulted in many years of work on the building. The church has been in use again since 1996.
