The Kahla village church, built in the baroque style in 1811, is a flat- roof plastered building with a gable roof . It has a three-sided east end and in the west a square church tower with an eight-sided top, tail hood and lantern .

The church was built in place of a wooden chapel, which fell victim to a fire on September 4, 1804, along with three-quarters of the village. The same construction period also saw the construction of the village church in Plessa , which was also destroyed by a village fire in 1811 and had to be rebuilt in 1814.

The fact that the village of Kahla was severely damaged by fire several times before the devastating fire in 1804 is remembered every year on September 4 since 1811, with the exception of an interruption in the period from 1914 to 1934 probably caused by the First World War Church gave a sermon on fire at this time. Originally there was a regular sermon on fire in Kahla since 1765, which, however, like a previous village fire in 1762, took place in June.

The village of Kahla originally belonged, like Plessa, to the parish of Elsterwerda and its church was a branch church of Elsterwerda. Until the 18th century in the then wendisch embossed site by the Elsterwerdaer pastor Ertel still in Wendish language preached. She stayed with Elsterwerda until the 19th century. During this time a separate rectory was built in Plessa and the parish of Plessa was created . In addition to Plessa itself, the church in Kahla also belonged to this parish. At present, the parish of Plessa, belonging to the parish of Bad Liebenwerda , includes the places Kahla, Hohenleipisch , Döllingen , Gorden and Dreska .

The church was refurbished after the fall of the Wall , including a new coat of paint inside and out. After being badly affected by hurricane Kyrill in January 2007, the roofs of the nave and the church tower were renovated in 2007 and 2008 .

In order to be able to further renovate the church, donation campaigns take place sporadically in the form of events such as concerts or collections.

Equipment (selection)

The interior of the church is characterized by a plastered ceiling and a horseshoe gallery, which was restored in 1992 . Furthermore, a wooden pulpit altar dating from the period of construction and a chalice-shaped sandstone baptism from the 17th century can be found here.

The organ in the church today was given at the beginning of the 20th century. The instrument was created in 1910 by the Liebenwerda organ builder Voigt (op. 9). The organ has a pneumatic cone chest , two manuals and six registers . Decommissioned since the severe damage in January 2007, it was refurbished by Voigt in 2014 and has been playable again since November 2014.

Fallen memorial

Fallen memorial

In the immediate vicinity of the church there is a memorial to the fallen in honor of the villagers who died in the First and Second World Wars . It has the shape of a stele on a three-tiered base. On the four sides, polished granite slabs were attached, which bear the names of the victims.
