Kirchdorf village church

The Protestant village church Kirchdorf is a sacred building from the 14th century in Kirchdorf , a district of the municipality Sundhagen in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

history

A chapel was first mentioned in Kirchdorf in 1396 . The choir comes to researching Ernst von Hasel Berg from the 16th century, while the nave in the 17th century was born. In his writings, he describes the building as "irrelevant in terms of art history". At the end of the 19th century, renovations were carried out in the neo-Gothic style . Furthermore, the parish had a triumphal arch built.

architecture

The nave is three-bay with a rectangular floor plan. The polygonal choir, which is equally wide, is not drawn in, faces east. Reddish brick was used as building material throughout all epochs . Only on the base - and in particular on the choir and the eastern nave - there are a few, uncut and unlayered field stones that could have come from a previous building. The north and south wall of the church is reinforced with three buttresses , between which two ogival windows are let in. This shape was also taken up on the north-east and south-east side of the choir, while an arched opening can be seen on its south side, but it is clogged and lightly plastered . The nave and choir are decorated with a surrounding frieze at the height of the eaves . Von Haselberg indicates a length of 17.98 meters with a width of 8.17 meters without a tower. The west tower is square in its ground plan and set back opposite the nave. Access is via a high, ogival portal with a triple curtain made of round bars . On the floor above there is a flat, ogival window on the west side. This is followed by the bell storey with a sound arcade on each side, followed by a lantern with a pointed helmet, tower ball and cross.

Furnishing

The furnishings including the west gallery come from the renovation in the 19th century. The church pews were built in the 18th century, but have some carved cheeks that could be dated to 1626. A nine-part rib vault is built into the choir , while the rest of the building is flat-roofed inside. The bell was cast by Peter Barke in 1649. It bears the inscription: IOCHIMS MEYERS IACOB DREVES PROVISORIBVS M PETER BARKE GOS ME THIS KLOG HORT IN DE KARCK DORPER KAPELL MP B 1 6 4 9.

They died on April 26, 1945 when a bazooka in the hands of their instructor exploded in a military camp in neighboring Jeeser. The burial took place on April 28, 1945.
