Lebien village church

The village church in Lebien , a district of Annaburg in the district of Wittenberg , Saxony-Anhalt , was built at the beginning of the 13th century and consecrated in 1234 as St. Mary's Church . Lawn iron stone from the Lochauer Heide was mainly used as a building material. It has exceptionally rich Renaissance furnishings.

description

The late Romanesque building consists of a nave and a recessed choir as well as an apse with a vault from the second half of the 15th century . The walkable west transverse tower made of brick, equipped with a hexagonal stair tower, mansard roof and attached lantern, was built at the end of the 16th century after the original turf iron tower collapsed.

The ribbed vault in the square choir is partly decorated with masks from the beginning of the 15th century. Two star vaults in the nave also date from the 15th century.

The original windows from the Romanesque era are still partially preserved in the choir. The original entrance was on the north side of the church. This, as well as a priest gate, are no longer available today.

It was artistically refurbished in 1592. This is indicated by the year engraved in the balustrade of the gallery . The church stalls also come from this time . The stately stalls on both sides of the choir were decorated with baroque paintings , like the gallery .

The altar dates from 1580. In the main field of the altar piece there is a painting of the Last Supper , above it a representation of the resurrection .

The pulpit with sound cover on the south side probably dates from the same time. In the fields of the polygonal basket there are carved figures of the Evangelists and God the Father. A three-dimensional representation of a dove of the Holy Spirit is on the underside of the sound cover, above it is a crucifix from the 16th century.

The sandstone baptism in front of the altar dates from the late baroque period .

The interior walls of the church are whitewashed. Uncoverings showed that contiguous areas of the medieval plaster have been preserved. The church's oldest lime secco painting is preserved in the nave .

Others

After one of the first church visits after the Reformation at the beginning of the 16th century, the church location Lebien became a branch church of the Parochie Axien .
