The village church Roggenstorf is an Evangelical Lutheran church building in Roggenstorf , a municipality in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ). It belongs to the parish of St. Johannes-Roggenstorf in the Wismar Propstei of the Evangelical Lutheran Church District Mecklenburg of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany .

History and architecture

The construction of the simple Gothic brick church from the 14th century with a north sacristy was probably started between 1318 and 1335. Friedrich Schlie deduced the date from documents, according to which it was not yet available in 1318. However, in 1335 it was already mentioned in the Ratzeburg church and fief tax. At that time, the Barnekow family was resident in Roggenstorf. She immediately obtained church patronage , so that Schlie regards this family as the founder of the church. In contrast to many other churches in western Mecklenburg, however, the detached box choir is not the oldest component here, but the ship . This is supported by the three Gothic window shades still recognizable on the east side of the nave above the detached choir , which stands on a field stone base, and the sacristy in the north of the nave, which was usually attached to the choir. The windows of the choir are also wider (more modern) than those of the nave. The west tower with four gables stands on a square floor plan, the octagonal helmet was probably put on in the 15th century. The walls are glazed by two-part pointed arch windows that were probably renewed in the 19th century.

The church is known as the wedding church of the Mecklenburg dialect poet Fritz Reuter .

Furnishing

Equipment of the church

The furnishings of the Roggenstorf village church are simple due to multiple revisions. The church is painted white. In 1898, Schlie pointed to a painted ceiling above the ceiling beams and the second ceiling below.

The church has had an organ (six registers , a manual and pedal ) by Friedrich Friese III since 1869 , the disposition of which was changed in 1968 by Wolfgang Nussbücker .

local community

In addition to the church in Roggenstorf, the village churches in Börzow , Kirch Mummendorf and Lübsee belong to the parish of St. Johannes-Roggenstorf.
