The Protestant village church Sielow is a neo-baroque hall church from 1906 in Sielow , a district of the city of Cottbus in the state of Brandenburg . The church belongs to the parish of Cottbus the Evangelical Church Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Oberlausitz .

location

The Sielower road leads as Highway 511 in north-south direction through the town. The church stands in the historic center of the village and there to the west of the country road on a plot of land that is fenced in by a fence .

history

According to an information board west of the church, the place was first mentioned in a document in 1449. For the first time, a previous building has come down to us from 1752. During industrialization, Sielow profited from the flourishing textile industry that settled in Cottbus and the surrounding area. In 1906 the parish therefore erected a new building, which, according to unspecified information in the Dehio manual, was based on this previous building. The district building inspector Robert Beutler probably created the design. The consecration took place on October 12, 1906. Towards the end of the Second World War , parts of the church tower were destroyed and rebuilt in 1956. In 1981 a renovation took place that also included the interior. It has been used as a community room since that time.

Building description

The structure was essentially built from bricks , which were then plastered . A cross-shaped structure was created with a rectangular choir that is straight and not drawn in. On the east side is a small porch with an arched gate between pilaster strips . Above is a central risalit with a small ox-eye . On the north and south sides of the porch there is a small, upright rectangular window. To the side of the porch are two large arched windows with curved plaster panels and an accentuated keystone on the east wall . In the simple roof on the east side is a bat dormer . The north and south walls of the choir are symmetrical. In the lower area is an ox-eye, above a large arched window.

This combination can also be found on the nave . On the east side there are two, on the north and south side one such window combination. At the southwest corner is a small annex that can be entered from the south through a gate.

This is followed by the square and recessed church tower to the west. It can be entered from the west through a gate. On the accessible sides in the lower area there are several smaller and high rectangular openings. The tower is also structured with pilaster strips that span a rectangular field. In this upper area there are four arched sound arcades on each side ; above - above the fields - a tower clock . This part ends with an onion dome , a lantern as well as a tower ball and cross.

Furnishing

The altarpiece dates from around 1600 and was restored in 1906. It consists of a shrine -Aufbau with fitting work. In the altarpiece relief is incorporated, the Mary's Assumption into heaven shows. It originally comes from the center shrine of a carved altar from the second third of the 15th century. In the niches of the structure you can see Paul of Tarsus and Simon Peter , in the altar extract the Lord's Supper . The parish suspects that the work was created by a student of Tilman Riemenschneider .

The wooden pulpit and a matching sound cover date from the same period. The evangelists and a portrait of Martin Luther are painted in the fields of the pulpit .

The organ was built by Friedrich Ernst Gustav Heinze from Sorau.
