history

Foundation and early years

The club was founded on July 30, 1954 as the Dornbirn sports club in Haselstauden . In 1960 it was renamed to its current name. In the years 1955 and 1961 the first successes were achieved with the championship title of the first class Unterland. 1968 one rose to the Vorarlberger Landesliga. Just five years later, with the promotion to the Regionalliga West , the second highest Austrian league at the time, the greatest success in the club's history. A few years later, however, the descent followed.

From the end of the 1990s, the Dornbirn sports club had a successful period under the honorary captain and then coach Gerhard Maier in the fourth-class Vorarlbergliga. In the 1998/99 season, the Dornbirner SV completed a strong second half after the third intermediate rank had already been reached in the fall. The club only missed the championship two games before the end in favor of FC Blau-Weiß Feldkirch ; in the end he was runner-up, two points behind, which was the greatest success of the last few decades.

For the 1999/2000 season, plans were continued with Gerhard Maier as coach. A place among the top three teams in the Vorarlberg League was named as the goal. The half-time of the season after 13 games ended in fourth place with 20 points. At six points, the distance to the front runner FC Schwarzach was not that great. Thanks to four clear victories in the last four games of the season, at the end of the season, as in the previous year, they were second in the table. The spring was particularly encouraging, with eight wins and five draws with a goal difference of 35:10. With five points ahead of third-placed FC Dornbirn and eleven points ahead of SC Hatlerdorf, the internal Dornbirn championship was also won again.

2000/01 season to 2007/08 season

After the DSV had increasingly lost ground in the Vorarlbergliga in the following years, in the new millennium it actually rose to the Vorarlberger Landesliga, the fifth highest league in Austria. After a few coach changes, the club was coached by Mario Oprsal from 2005.

The goal of the season was - as in previous years - promotion to the Vorarlberg League. To do this, you would have to become champion or runner-up among the 14 participating teams.

Halfway through the season after 13 games, 21 points were posted, which meant a position in the middle of the table. Thanks to an outstanding second half of the season, the first championship title in the decade and the return to the highest league in Vorarlberg could be celebrated.

At the end of the season, Mario Oprsal handed over the coaching position to Günter Riedesser. After a weak start to the season - from seven games only two points could be won - he took the consequences and handed the position over to player-coach Michael Gsteu. The first half of the season ended with nine points in twelfth place in the table. It was only on the last day of the match that they just managed to stay up; Since instead of the expected four, only three teams had to relegate to the state league, the Dornbirn sports club ended up in eleventh place.

Rivalries

There has been a certain rivalry with other Dornbirn football clubs since it was founded. The clashes with the traditional football club Dornbirn from the Schoren district in particular stand for eventful games. However, due to the difference in performance between the two teams, they rarely come about. There were more encounters with the Admira Dornbirn sports club from the neighboring Rohrbach district and the Hatlerdorf sports club . Due to the geographical proximity and the special status, the number of visitors to Dornbirn derbies is usually significantly higher than to games against other teams. Since the Haselstauden district as a former Hofsteig municipality borders on Schwarzach and Wolfurt , the encounters with the football clubs from these communities also have a derby character.

Venue

The Haselstauden sports field in June 2009

The DSV plays on the Haselstauden sports field . It is located in the western half of Haselstauden, directly below the junction of the Haselstauden and Stiglbach train stops . The halls of the Haselstauden tennis club are adjacent to it.

The sports field was opened in 1974. In 1993 a second grass pitch was laid out, the hard court was renewed and a smaller, fenced football field with a tartan floor was built. In 1998 the new club home was completed. There are only seats for games on benches in front of the clubhouse, there are no permanently installed stands.

The Haselstauden sports field is the only one in the district, so it is the local sports center. For example, the annual sports festival of the Haselstauden secondary school is held on the sports field. However, since there is no career path or similar facilities, the sporting options are very limited.

Squad and team offer

Around 180 children are currently playing in eleven youth teams. The 1b team of the DSV, in which mostly younger self-made players appear, takes part in the third national class. For some years now, the DSV has also been running a women's team that plays in the Vorarlberg League.

The squad of the first combat team is usually largely made up of self-made players. The much smaller part of the players started their football career with other clubs or lives outside Dornbirn.

The association was sponsored by the "Rollfix" company for 30 years, and in 2002 the blind manufacturer Hella took over the sponsorship. Since then the club has been playing under the name "Hella Dornbirner Sportverein". The game operations are secured by a large number of other sponsors. As a further source of income, the association organizes a number of events every year, such as lottery games and concerts.
