Double header (television)

A double header is the broadcast of two games of a sport one after the other without showing another program in between. In North America , games in a league often begin at the same local time, which is why there are "early" and "late" games due to the different time zones in the United States, for example .

Soccer

Premier League

In the UK , Sky Sports Doubleheader broadcasts Premier League games under the title "Super Sunday". The first game starts at 1:30 p.m. and the second follows at 4 p.m.

League MX

The Mexican television channel Canal de las Estrellas broadcasts two football matches as a double header on Sundays . The first game, usually a home game of the Deportivo Toluca or the UNAM Pumas, starts at 12 noon local time. The second game, typically a Club América home game, starts at 4 p.m. If two of the named teams have no home game, no double header will be broadcast. In the United States , Univision has been broadcasting this double header since 2012 .

World championships

At the soccer world championships , real-time games (e.g. 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.) are often broadcast as double headers. In Germany this was not the case as the games were interrupted by news broadcasts.

National Football League

Games in the National Football League (NFL) usually begin around 13 am local time, resulting in a double header at 13: 00/16: 25 pm in the Eastern time zone and a doubleheader at 10: 00/13: 25 pm in the Pacific time Zone leads.

The two channels with the broadcasting rights for the Sunday games - Fox and CBS - will broadcast the games as double headers during the regular season . In the first 16 weeks, Fox airs eight times and CBS double headers eight times, and both in the 17th week. NBC does not broadcast double headers.

Since the 2006 season , two Monday games are played in the first week, which ESPN broadcasts as a double header.

In Canada , the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) broadcasts Hockey Night in Canada on Saturdays, a double header of the National Hockey League (NHL) during the regular season . The Canadian sports broadcaster The Sports Network often broadcasts a double header on Wednesdays. In the United States, NBCSN shows double headers as part of their NHL coverage.

National Basketball Association

In broadcasts of the National Basketball Association (NBA) there at Christmas two double header. Double headers are broadcast regularly on ESPN and TNT , and more rarely on ABC . In 2010 and 2011, a double header was broadcast on Thanksgiving , but this was discontinued for the 2012 season.
