Dr. Scissors alias Pino Grzybowsky , actually Axel Grzybowsky , (born March 19, 1964 in Göttingen ) is a German musician, composer, sound designer and DJ.

biography

Grzybowsky took lessons on the electronic organ from 1974 to 1978 as well as self-taught learning to play keyboard on the Hohner D6 and the Fender Rhodes . He started deejaying in 1995.

The greatest influences on him were early Genesis albums up to A Trick of the Tail , the album Ricochet by Tangerine Dream and the album Logic by Logic System and in general the 1980s, whereby The Cure with Seventeen Seconds and Simple Minds with New Gold Dream 81 / 82/83/84 played a role. The first own compositions and sound collages were made using multiplay technology in 1979, and 50 copies were sold on compact cassettes via a fanzine for electronic music. From 1980 to 1992 he was the keyboardist of various bands in the Rhein-Main area (Rentryd, Mechanique Marine, Senseless Symmetry, C / no, 51-Sex and Set Fatale).

In 1987 the first compositions were made on the Atari 1040 ST computer. After leaving Set Fatale in 1992, the Baby Tigers was founded together with Roger Cobernuss, later supplemented by Sascha Nikolic and Helmut Hartl. He had his first project with complete arrangements in the computer using synthesizers, rhythm machines and samplers with voice and electric guitar. From 1993 onwards he specialized in electronic dance music and chill-out , and his own studio grew continuously with analog synthesizers and other machines. In 1995 the first releases followed on labels of the techno scene ( Superstition , Delirium Records , POD-Communications ).

It was discovered in 1996 by Gabriel Le Mar for Elektrolux . A first stay in Los Angeles marked the start of the Insect Jazz project with Mike Knapp aka Xpando from Bassex Records LA, whose title Wildflower will be the opener for Space Night Earthviews IV on Bayern 3 , the first Space Night season, which was carried out by Elektrolux ( Alex Azary & Gabriel Le Mar). Various publications in the first phase of Elektrolux follow. Since then he has had around 100 publications under various pseudonyms and as a member of various projects.

As a DJ and live musician, he has been touring the USA, Japan, the Russian Federation, Switzerland, Italy and Sweden since 1995. He had an involvement in the media art project R111 by Michael Saup with exhibitions in Unna (Connected Cities) 1999, Paris / Créteil 2000 Frameries 2000, Tokyo (Canon Artlab at Spiral Building) 2001, ZKM Karlsruhe 2005. Dr. Scissors led a workshop for electronic music at the Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe in 1999/2000. Together with Michael Saup, he took part in Profile Intermedia 8 at the Bremen University of the Arts in 2005 . He lives and works in Munich .
