career

Yugoslavia / Macedonia

The 1.86 m tall goalkeeper came to FK Vardar in Skopje via the stations FK Becej and FK Srem for the 1966/67 season . Mutibarič had gone through all the national teams in his youth and showed so good performances at FK Vardar in the national league that he was appointed to the senior national team at the end of the 1968/69 season. He made his debut on February 26, 1969 in Split in a 2-1 win at the side of captain Dragan Holcer in the "Plavi", Ronnie Hellström guarded the goal of Sweden. In the first four qualifying games for the 1970 World Cup, Ivan Ćurković still held the leading role in goal, but on June 4, 1969, he was replaced by the goalkeeper from Skoplje in a 5-1 win against Finland. When Yugoslavia won the last World Cup qualifier against Belgium ( Christian Piot , Paul van Himst ) in Skopje 4-0 on October 19, 1969 , Mutibarič was in the host's goal for the second time in World Cup qualification. Club colleague Metodija Spasovski scored two goals. But Belgium qualified with 9: 3 points against 7: 5 for Yugoslavia for the 1970 World Cup in Mexico. After the 0: 4 defeat on October 28, 1970 in Moscow against the Soviet Union, the national team career of the goalkeeper from FK Vardar under Selector Rajko Mitić ended after ten missions.

Up to and including the 1974/75 season he guarded the goal of Vardar before he accepted the offer from FC Schalke 04 for the 1975/76 round and moved to the Bundesliga .

Germany, 1975 to 1977

For the 1975/76 round, FC Schalke 04 signed Max Merkel, a coach who had already won the Bundesliga twice with Munich 1860 (1966) and 1. FC Nürnberg (1968). The Austrian succeeded Ivica Horvat . Dragan Mutibarič was signed to the side of regular goalkeeper Norbert Nigbur and Branko Oblak to support playmaker Hans Bongartz from Split . In cooperation with Klaus Fichtel , Helmut Kremers , Rolf Rüssmann , Jürgen Sobieray , Herbert Lütkebohmert , Rüdiger Abramczik , Klaus Fischer and Erwin Kremers , the prerequisites for a successful round seemed to have been laid. After five games with the result of 4: 6 points, the first doubts arose in Schalke. On the sixth matchday, September 6, 1975, at a home game against FC Bayern Munich, the second goalkeeper's hour struck: Mutibarič made his debut in front of 71,500 spectators in the Parkstadion against the Bayern team around Sepp Maier , Franz Beckenbauer and Gerd Müller . When the score was 2-1, he suffered a serious shoulder contusion in the 78th minute and was replaced by Nigbur. In the 86th minute of the game, Rainer Zobel scored the goal to make it 2-2. Six weeks later, on October 18, the goalkeeper was used by coach Merkel for the second time in the DFB Cup match against Borussia Dortmund. Schalke won 2-1, but Mutibarič looked nervous and couldn't convince. Eight days later, on October 25th, Schalke 04 joined Bayer 05 Uerdingen with the new entry in goal. The game was lost 2: 3 after which Mutibarič spent the rest of the round on the bench. The change of coach from Merkel to Friedel Rausch on March 9, 1976 did nothing to change that.

After a year at Schalke 04, the goalkeeper joined the promoted team in the 2nd Bundesliga , the fusion club BSV Schwenningen , from Villingen-Schwenningen for the 1976/77 season . Last year's champion of the Black Forest-Bodensee amateur league signed not only the goalkeeper but also Wolfgang Lex , Franz Michelberger , Wolfgang Roßband , Herbert Seiffert and, as a "highlight", the national player Helmut Haller . The round did not bring any success for the players or the club from the clock city in the Black Forest. With no chance with 15:61 points, the team was the bottom of the 20s-Südstaffel and also had by far the worst goal difference with 31:10. Away there was no double point win at all, three draws were the result from 19 games. Mutibarič played 22 league games and returned to his homeland at the beginning of 1977 when the club fell behind with wages.

Back home

He joined FK Trepca Kosovska Mitrovica in 1977/78, before returning to his starting position, FK Vardar, from the 1979/80 season in Macedonia guarded the goal and finally his career at FK Teteks (Tetova) in the second division in 1988 finished.
