Branko Oblak (born May 27, 1947 in Ljubljana ) is a former Yugoslav football player .
Career
societies
Emerging from the youth of NK Svoboda , Oblak moved at the age of 18 to the first division club Olimpija Ljubljana , for whom he not only made his debut in a 2-1 victory at FK Partizan Belgrade on May 20, 1966 , but also scored both goals. After eight years, 181 games and 33 goals, he moved to Hajduk Split in 1973 , with whom he also achieved his first successes as a professional. In the first season he won the double (championship and cup) with the team and was able to win the championship again in the following season.
After two seasons, he moved to Germany in 1975 where he signed a two-year contract with Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04 . His first of 49 league games for the "Knappen" he played on October 25, 1975 (11th matchday) in the 2: 3 defeat in the away game against Bayer 05 Uerdingen . From the 1977/78 season he was part of the FC Bayern Munich squad , for which he played 71 Bundesliga games, scoring five goals and was German champion in his last season with the team. Oblak then returned to Yugoslavia and played from 1980 to 1982 for NK Šibenik .
He then moved to the Austrian second division club SV Spittal an der Drau, for whom he completed three seasons, rose to the first division as a champion in the second , played 17 league games, but as thirteenth in the table again - due to the reduction in the league from 16 to 12 clubs relegated to second class. From 1985 to 1987 Oblak was still active in the Austrian third division club SV Feldkirchen , with whom he failed in his first season, however, in the promotion relegation to the 2nd division at Union Vöcklamarkt before ending his career.
National team
Oblak made his debut in the national team on April 21, 1971 in Novi Sad in the 0-1 defeat against the selection of Romania ; He scored his first international goal on September 1, 1971 in Budapest in a 2-1 defeat by Hungary . With the senior national team of his country, he took part in the 1974 World Cup in Germany and also in the 1976 European Championship in his own country. Oblak played 50 international matches until 1977 and scored eight goals. After completing his active career, he became a coach and was, among other things, national coach of Slovenia until November 28, 2006 .
