action
One day in 1190 the kingdom of King Fastrad IV of Carpathias was ravaged by fire-breathing dragons. After the monsters destroy his castle, he flees to his enemy, King Wednesbury, to warn him of the threat and to seek protection under an emergency treaty. On the way there, which he takes on foot through the woods, he gets lost together with his few remaining men. A strange hunter shows them the way to Wednesbury Castle, which they are unable to find on their own. Silas takes them to the castle and disappears again after receiving a ring from the king as a reward. Back in the forest, Silas meets King Wednesbury's daughter Medina, who is on the hunt and is accompanied by guards. The soldiers think the hunter is a thief when they see the ring. They take him prisoner and take him to the castle. There he meets King Fastrad, who has taken refuge with his men in the castle and can now relieve him. Still, King Wednesbury won't let Silas go easily. He expects him to help protect the kingdom from the dragon threat in return for his tax debts. Silas is forced to agree to form a group of daredevils around him. Together with Medina, Remmegar, the Chinese trader Ling, some soldiers and Nessa, he goes on a hunt for the dragons. Shortly before he was killed by the dragons, Nessa's father had built a "baliste". With this oversized crossbow the brave expect a good chance against the monsters.
When the first dragon begins to attack the men, Nessa manages to kill the animal with a shot of the "Baliste". Soon the other dragons appear, the multitudes of which cannot all be fought at the same time, but after Nessa has killed a second dragon, the other monsters withdraw. To be better prepared for a new attack, they fill vessels with gunpowder. Silas manages to find the dragons' retreat. There they surprise the monsters and can kill two more. But they also notice that someone is sabotaging their struggle. King Fastrad has smuggled a traitor into the dragon slayers in hopes of taking over Wednesbury Castle. Disguised as a dragon sacrifice, he succeeds in eliminating one king after another. So unprotected, Wednesbury Fastrad is completely at the mercy. He has to give him his crown and is locked in the dungeon by him.
Medina and Silas, however, saw through Fastrad's wrong game and are about to strike back. In the middle of this fight, the last of the remaining dragons appears and is killed by Silas. Before that, however, Fastrad dies under a burst of fire from the dragon.
In gratitude for Silas' deeds that saved the kingdom, King Fastrad promises him the hand of his daughter Medina.
criticism
Kino.de evaluates: “Stephen Furst, once an undignified pancake in the classic comedy 'Animal House', has matured from supernard to director and presents the fantasy community with a B-dragon fight set against a winter forest backdrop with all sorts of popular fantasy cliché types and various crooks schemes so that it doesn't get boring in the long middle section between the first dragon attack and final dragon destruction. Lively sayings, predictable story and instant medieval romance with solid CGI effects, the dragons themselves are impressive. "
The lexicon of international films spoke of a “fantasy film with relatively solid computer effects”, which however “lacks cinematic craftsmanship and creativity”.
