The Dranser See is a body of water in Schweinrich , a district of the city of Wittstock / Dosse in the Ostprignitz-Ruppin district in the state of Brandenburg .
location
The water is located south-east of the city on the district of Schweinrich. There Landstrasse 15 runs south in a west-east direction. Together with the small and large Baalsee , this is the north-western edge of the Stechlin-Ruppiner Land nature reserve . To the northwest lies the eponymous district of Dranse , which also belongs to Wittstock / Dosse. Most of the lake is in a wooded area, only in Schweinrich is there a residential area adjacent to the water. The lake has an area of around 133 hectares . In the south-western area is the Upper Müritzsee, the only named tributary of the water. However, the state of Brandenburg lists the Sieggraben as the only tributary in its water body profile. The lake is mostly fed from groundwater. Four more, unnamed trenches drain from Schweinrich into the lake, two more in the eastern area. In the north, the Obere Müritzsee is the only outflow into the northern Griebsee .
FREE HEIDe reminder column
In the 2000s, the area was the scene of the use of the Wittstock military training area . During this time the FREIe HEIDe initiative organized numerous Easter marches , which also led around the lake. To commemorate the 90th protest march, a warning column by the German graphic artist Wolfgang Dicks from Rägelin has stood on the north-western bank since July 2004 .
Ecological assessment and tourist use
The bathing water quality was consistently rated as “excellent” by the state of Brandenburg from 2009 to 2017, the ecological status class as “moderate”. Since only around 9% of the area in the catchment area is used for agriculture, the lake is comparatively poor in nutrients. Added to this is the protection provided by the FFH area to the north and the large forest areas. The State Office for the Environment monitors the lake as part of a long-term monitoring program. In the summer it found visibility depths of 1.8 to 3.0 m; although there are signs of slight over-fertilization.
There is a nature campsite on the southwestern bank. The lake is used by anglers, paddlers, rowers and professional fishermen who catch eels , perch , pike , carp , roach , rudd and pikeperch . Due to the comparatively good water quality, the lake is still popular with divers. A 10.5 km long circular hiking trail leads from Dranse around the lake.
