Location of Dreye in Lower Saxony

Dreye is a district of the municipality Weyhe with about 1208 inhabitants. Dreye is located directly on the Weser and borders Bremen in the northwest .

With almost 150 businesses, Dreye is the focus of the Weyhe community. The proximity to the Weser river and the lakes in the summer offer ideal swimming conditions, also a are dike trail and a marina there. Voluntary fire brigade and sports club provide youth care. history

Dreye was settled from 1158 with the privilege of the German King Friedrich I. Barbarossa . The place developed from a customs post on the Weser or on the road from Riede to Bremen. The Dreye railway bridge over the Weser was built in 1873 as part of the construction of the Wanne-Eickel-Hamburg railway line (via Recklinghausen , Münster , Osnabrück , Bremen, Rotenburg (Wümme) ).

Until 1974 Dreye was part of the rural community of Kirchweyhe. After the regional reform, Dreye was combined with Kirchweyhe, Sudweyhe and Leeste to form the municipality of Weyhe.

After the construction of the A1 motorway, many new industrial areas were created in Dreye. Today Dreye is the main business location of the municipality Weyhe. The best-known company in Dreye is Aldi with the main warehouse and the Markus coffee roastery.

Population development

In 1821 Dreye had 23 houses and 150 inhabitants; In 1834 Dreye had 23 houses and belonged to the parish of Weyhe; In 1895 there were 45 houses with 325 inhabitants, and in 1925 the population was already 465. Today the Weyher district has about 1200 inhabitants.
