The melody of "You, you are in my heart"

You, you are in my heart is a German folk song that was written before 1821 and was used in many films.

history

During the 19th century the song was translated into several languages, including Dutch ( Gij, gij, ligt mij aan 't harte ) and English ( Here, here deep in my bosom or Thou, thou liv'st in this true heart in England , Am I not fondly thine own or Thou, thou reign'st in this bosom in the USA ). The origin of the text and the melody is not known. The oldest known print version appeared in Berlin in 1821 as part of a play by Christoph Friedrich Bretzner without any indication of authorship . The song was particularly widespread in Württemberg , Bavaria and Tyrol .

You, you are in my heart was played on the flute by Canada Lee in Alfred Hitchcock's film The Lifeboat (1943) and sung by Walter Slezak . In Stanley Kramer's film The Judgment of Nuremberg (1961) the song appears in a version by Ernest Gold . In the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s the song was used in many other films, including Ring Free for Love (1932) by John Ford , The Drama of the Deluge (1928) by Michael Curtiz (sung by Louise Fazenda ), Four Sons ( 1940) and Ever in My Heart (1933) by Archie Mayo (played and sung by Otto Kruger ) and Dangerous Honeymoon (1943) by Richard Thorpe (sung by Joan Crawford and Fred MacMurray ). text

You, you are in my heart
you, you are in my mind.
You, you give me a lot of pain,
don't know how good I am to you.
Yes, yes, yes, yes, don't know how good I am to you.

The way I love
you, love me too. I feel
the most tender instincts
for you forever.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I feel forever for you

Yes, but can I trust
you, you with an easy mind?
You, you can count on me,
you know how good I am for you!
Yes, yes, yes, yes, you know how good I am to you!

And, and if
your picture appears to me in the distance,
then I wish so much
that love unites us.
Yes, yes, yes, yes, that love should unite us.
