You are not alone is a German time melodrama from 1949 by Paul Verhoeven with Carola Höhn and Peter Pasetti in the leading roles.

action

Germany, in the early post-war period. Michael Dieffenbach has returned from the Second World War and, like so many men of that time, comes across a deeply traumatized and not only structurally destroyed country. He meets the young Marianne Vogt, who is longingly waiting for the return of her husband and father of her child. They give each other support and new hope for life, and Marianne is about to come to terms with the thought that her husband died in the war and to end the old chapter - if it weren't for the old father-in-law. He demands nothing less than that Marianne should live on in the memory of his (presumably fallen) son, regardless of whether he is still alive or not. But one day he too has to realize that the freshly blossoming love between Marianne and Michael is deeper than the memory of the dead and the past.

Production notes

You are not alone was made in the winter of 1948/49 in the film studios of Geiselgasteig as well as in Munich and on the Chiemsee. The film passed the Allied film censorship in March 1949 and was premiered on April 15, 1949. The Berlin premiere was on June 20, 1949 in the west of the city.

August Rittig worked as production manager. Franz Bi and Rudolf Pfenninger designed the film buildings. Carl Becker took care of the sound, Theo Nischwitz designed the special effects.

You're not alone was the only film Paul Verhoeven made with his own short-lived production company.
