action

Jorge works as a concierge in a house where he also lives with his father. He had suffered a stroke seven years earlier when he caught Jorge in an act of vandalism, and has since been in need of care. Jorge feels guilty about it and takes care of him. At the same time, he is studying distance learning and is trying to get a better job in a company, which he is denied because he cannot and does not want to explain during the interviews why there is a gap of seven years in his CV.

Natalia, Jorge's childhood sweetheart, who is returning after an internship abroad, also lives in the same house. Jorge still loves her, but he always feels inferior to her, which has so far prevented the two from becoming a couple.

When Jorge isn't taking care of his father, he spends most of the time on the rooftop of the apartment block with his best friend Israel, known as Sean because of his resemblance to Sean Penn . From there, they watch the other residents of the neighborhood and discuss their lives.

In this situation, Antonio, Jorge's brother in prison, approaches him with an unusual request; he is supposed to impregnate his girlfriend Paula, whom he met while in custody, because he is incapable of childbearing himself and Paula is being mistreated by the other inmates. If she were pregnant, she would be transferred to the mother-and-child wing, which would make her detention considerably easier.

At first Jorge is reluctant, since he now seems to have won Natalia over, despite everything. However, Paula manages to convince him of the importance of her concern and Jorge impregnates her. Although she is actually his brother's girlfriend, Paula and Jorge fall in love; Antonio was only used by her to get into the mother-child wing. Antonio only learns about it from Paula much later, when he has been on parole for a few months and visits Paula in prison. On the side, Antonio tries with deceit to get a long-forgotten reserve of money from the demented father in order to secure Paula and himself a future together - but he does not succeed.

At the same time, Sean discovers through his observations from the roof of the apartment block that his father is homosexual and regularly visits a masseur in the neighborhood to be satisfied. At first he blackmailed him with it; however, he in turn begins to visit the masseur and takes pleasure in it. When he openly confronts his father in the presence of his mother with his inclination, it comes to a discussion with his mother, who already knew about it. In the following it seems as if father and son, whose relationship had been characterized by disdain until then, could come to terms with each other.

The hopelessness of Jorge's situation is symbolized by a dark blue, almost black suit (which gave the film its name) in the window of a fashion store, which, although its price is constantly being reduced, remains prohibitively expensive for Jorge. Towards the end of the film, Jorge breaks into the shop and steals the suit.

Encouraged by the relationship with Paula, which gives him more than the hopeless situation with Natalia, Jorge finally breaks away from this and changes his job, but only to work as a concierge in another house. He negotiates for himself to be allowed to wear his new suit to work in this job, and so breaks out of his old, cramped life a little.

At the end of the film it remains to be seen whether Paula and Jorge will remain a couple. The impression arises that Paula only took advantage of him to be transferred to the mother-child wing.
