The transparent barberry ( Berberis diaphana ) is a species of the family of the barberry family (Berberidaceae). It is based in the Chinese province of Gansu .
description
The transparent barberry is a deciduous (deciduous) shrub that can reach a height of up to 2 meters. The branches are colored yellow, the thorns are three-part and up to 2 centimeters long. The leaves, which are dark gray-green on top and bluish on the underside, are up to 3.5 centimeters long, obovate, wedge-shaped at the base, rounded at the tip, clearly network-nerved and with 5 to 10 small teeth on each side. The leaves turn scarlet in autumn . The intense yellow and up to 1.5 centimeters wide flowers appear in umbels in groups of 2 to 5. The egg-shaped berries are up to 1.5 centimeters long, light red and translucent, which is where the name of the plant comes from (Greek diaphanes means translucent).

This species and its varieties are rarely used as an ornamental shrub in gardens and parks.
