history

ELAU was founded by development engineers Erwin Fertig and Heinz Lang in 1978 and initially developed analogue regulation and control systems. In 1984 NASA placed the order for the complete electronic equipment for the Spacelab transporter. With the single-axis positioning controller SX-1, the company presented a major innovation to the professional world in 1986, which is used by BMW , Audi and VW , among others .

In the following years ELAU expanded strongly, also to Italy and Chicago, and in 1999 it was converted into a public company. Due to the concentration on the packaging industry, ELAU separated from the automotive drive technology division in 2001. ELAU positioned itself as an automation company for all machines in the consumer goods industry. To illustrate the close cooperation, Schneider Electric took over 46.5 percent of the shares in ELAU AG in 2004. ELAU Sarl, based in Paris, and ELAU Ltd. based in Milton Keynes in England were founded, as well as further branches in Lyon , Wohlen and Chicago .

In 2005 ELAU became a Schneider Electric company.

In 2006, the company presented the iSH servo series, a new integrated servo drive for packaging machines, at the SPS / IPC / DRIVES. Individual components of the machines are thus compressed into one structural unit. In the following year ELAU expanded in Scandinavia and the Benelux countries.

The company also won the Frost & Sullivan Award in 2007.

In 2008, ELAU was the largest automation company at interpack in Düsseldorf. In the same year ELAU becomes the worldwide Packaging Solution Center of Schneider Electric . ELAU AG was transformed into ELAU GmbH in 2008 with the previous chairman of the board, Norbert Gauß, as managing director. In May 2010 Andrea Barbolini took over the management.
