Just Venter
Ebenhaezer Venter (born September 29, 1954 in Burgersdorp , South African Union ) is a South African writer .
Life
Ebenhaezer Venter grew up on a sheep farm and attended Gray College in Bloemfontein . He was drafted into the military and was also used in Angola . He studied at the Noordwes-Universiteit and the Universiteit van Port Elizabeth (UPE) and received an MA in philosophy with a thesis on Max Horkheimer . Venter worked as a journalist in Johannesburg . Because of the political emergency in South Africa, he went to Australia for a time in 1986, where he worked as a cook. In 1995 he returned to Prince Albert .
Venter has published short stories, short stories and novels in Afrikaans and a cookbook. Venter was a Fellow at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in Wassenaar in 2006 . He was invited to write workshops at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam , the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan and the University of Kyoto .
Venter has been awarded the WA Hofmeyr Prize several times . In 2010 he received the M-Net Literary Award for literature in Afrikaans and the ATKV-Prosaprys of the Afrikaanse Taalen Kultuurvereniging for Santa Gamka , and the English translation of Trencherman was on the long list of the South African Sunday Times . The novel follows the tradition of Joseph Conrad's story Heart of Darkness and JM Coetzee's dystopian novel Disgrace .
