Serghei Taranovschi was convicted two days after the doping final run. However, he was allowed to keep the medal until the legal proceedings were concluded. Finally, on July 11, 2017 , the International Court of Justice confirmed the decision of the World Canoeing Federation, with which he was disqualified and had to surrender the medal. So Ilya Shtokalov moved to the ritten square.
