Eberhard Marckhgott (born June 13, 1912 in Linz , † June 29, 1999 in Enns ) was an Austrian Roman Catholic priest of the diocese of Linz and pastor of Enns - St. Laurenz .

Life

Eberhard Marckhgott was born in Linz in 1912. After training at the Episcopal Gymnasium Kollegium Petrinum and at the Philosophical-Theological College in Linz , Bishop Johannes Maria Gföllner ordained him as a priest on June 29, 1937. He was initially a cooperator in St. Marien and in Taufkirchen an der Pram , before he came to Enns as a chaplain in 1940 and was appointed to Lorch's first local chaplain in 1941 , whose venerable church soon aroused his interest. The rediscovery of the relics of the Lorch martyrs in 1944, which today rest in the main altar of Enns - St. Laurenz , is thanks to his efforts in collaboration with the relic researcher Father Timotheos Alois Stumpfl . After the Second World War, Marckhgott was a religious teacher at the higher educational institutions for women's professions in Linz, for 17 years also church rector and pastor for the Ursulines in Linz, as well as a consultant in the CLV, member of the MKV and the ÖCV . In 1952 he received his doctorate with a thesis on "Church life in Lorch-Enns from its beginnings until the year 1553" in Salzburg for a doctor of theology . In 1963 he became pastor of Enns and at the same time dean of the Enns-Lorch dean's office . In addition to pastoral care, his main concern was the archaeological research of the Church of St. Laurence and its structural renovation. In 1968, with the help of a parish division, St. Laurenz was (again) elevated to a parish church and at the same time the first titular archbishopric in Central Europe, and a modern parish center was established for the people of the young parish; In 1970 the church was given the title of a minor basilica due to its outstanding historical importance and in 1988 Eberhard Marckhgott was able to welcome Pope John Paul II in St. Laurence. He also gained by promoting the worship of the great merits Lorcher martyrs and martyrs and holy Florian († 304) and the holy Severin († 482), all on site of ancient Lauriacum have worked. In 1989, at the age of 77, Marckhgott moved to the Enns district nursing home, where he continued to enjoy pastoral services. He passed away on June 29, 1999, the 62nd anniversary of his ordination. In Enns, the Doktor-Marckhgott-Platz is named after him.
