Eberhard Schulze (born January 1, 1940 in Chemnitz ) is a German agricultural scientist . His main focus was on agricultural economics , agricultural informatics and agricultural history .

Live and act

Eberhard Schulze, son of a master painter from Oberlungwitz (brother of puppeteer Arthur Heinrich Schulze ), was interested in agriculture as a farmer's grandson. In 1958 he passed the Abitur in Lichtenstein / Sa. , and agricultural practices studied for two years from 1960 in Leipzig agriculture and in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) Business Mathematics . From 1967 he worked at the Institute for Agricultural Economics at the University of Leipzig , received his doctorate in 1971 with a model on pig production and then headed the computing station of the animal production and veterinary medicine section at the same university until 1973. He then worked for three years as the person responsible for investment preparation in the Agriculture Department of the Leipzig District Council.

After returning to the University of Leipzig Schulze conducted the Training Division Operations Research ( Operations Research ) and mathematics and computer science at the Science section Agricultural Economics and taught the application of economic-mathematical methods including cybernetics and agricultural computer science . In 1978 he showed in an article that agriculture in the GDR was not economically efficient enough, which earned him criticism from the leading agricultural politicians because they felt attacked. After his habilitation in 1984 , Schulze was appointed university lecturer (university lecturer for computer science in agriculture) by the Minister for Higher Education and Technical Education in 1985 . Together with the Computer Science Section of the University of Leipzig, he developed an in -depth computer science course for farmers , which after German reunification went into the minor course in computer science for farmers ( agricultural informatics ), the only one of its kind in reunified Germany. In September 1989 Schulze was the only East German to be elected to the Scientific Advisory Board of the Society for Information Technology in Agriculture, Forestry and the Food Industry (GIL). The first Gil event in East Germany was organized by Schulze in Leipzig in 1993. However, due to the closure of the Leipzig Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in 1996, the course could not be continued. At times, Schulze also headed the agricultural economics department .

In 1995 Schulze took up a position at the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Development in Central and Eastern Europe (IAMO) in Halle (Saale) and headed, among other things, the research focus on agricultural constitution . At the end of 2004 he retired . His list of publications includes around 350 works, including several books.

In addition to his professional activity as an agricultural economist and agricultural computer scientist , Schulze had and still has a pronounced interest in agricultural history and the history of agricultural sciences , triggered by the technical-technological and social changes in agriculture. From 1992 he held lectures on agricultural history at the University of Leipzig .

honors and awards

In recognition of his academic achievements and his voluntary work, he was awarded the Leipziger Ökonomische Societät e. V. awarded their Medal of Honor. The Timiryazev Academy Moscow awarded him in 2008 for the translation and publication of Russian literature in Germany, especially from and about the Russian agricultural economist Alexander Tschajanow their Golden Tschajanow medal .
