Eberhard Tiefenthaler

Eberhard Tiefenthaler (born April 19, 1933 in Bregenz ; † May 4, 1995 there ) was an Austrian Romance studies and librarian.

Live and act

Eberhard Tiefenthaler was the eldest son of the Vorarlberg archivist Meinrad Tiefenthaler . He graduated from the humanistic grammar school in Bregenz in 1952 and then studied Romance languages, history and classical philology at the universities of Innsbruck and Paris . During his studies he became a member of the KÖHV Leopoldina Innsbruck in 1952 . In the academic year 1956/57 he was the local president of the Austrian Cartel Association (ÖCV). In 1958 he became a member of the KÖStV Wellenstein Bregenz in the Mittelschüler-Kartell-Verband (MKV).

In Innsbruck he was awarded a doctorate in 1958 with a thesis on "The Rhaeto-Romanic field names of the municipalities of Frastanz and Nenzing ". phil. PhD . He went to the University of Salamanca for a semester . After working as a lecturer at the Innsbruck Institute for Romance Studies, as a teacher at the grammar schools in Bludenz and Feldkirch and in scientific publishing, in 1977 he took over the development of the Vorarlberg State Library , of which he was director until his death.

In addition, he dealt with the culture of Vorarlberg in the baroque age and questions of monument protection. Eberhard Tiefenthaler was vice-president of the Association of Austrian Librarians , co-editor of Biblos (Austrian magazine for books and libraries, documentation, bibliography and bibliophilia), and, like his father, president of the Association for the History of Lake Constance and its Surroundings .

Honors

  • In 1992 he was awarded the Cross of Honor for Science and Art, 1st Class, for his diverse commitment .
  • In 1993 he received the Dr. Josef Bick Medal from the Association of Austrian Librarians.
