Eberhard von der Recke (politician)

Eberhard Friedrich Christoph Ludwig Freiherr von der Recke (contemporary von der Reck , also von Recke zu Stockhausen , born December 15, 1744 in Stockhausen , † March 20, 1816 in Merseburg ) was a Prussian politician and civil governor of Saxony from 1813 to 1815 .

origin

He comes from the noble family von der Recke, who was raised to the baron status . His parents were Wilhelm Christian von der Recke (1707–1764), Herr auf Stockhausen and Lübbecke, and Sophie Dorothea Friederike von Rochow (1721–1757), a sister of the reformer Friedrich Eberhard von Rochow .

Life

After studying law in 1771, he became the district president in Minden , and in 1780 he received the same position in the administrative district of Kleve . While working in Minden, he founded the school teacher seminar there .

On December 30, 1784, he was appointed Prussian Minister of Justice on behalf of King Frederick the Great . In this function he also served as President of the Prussian Higher Tribunal .

After the French occupation of Prussia in 1807, he was retired. After the Battle of Leipzig in 1813 he administered the General Government of Saxony until the end of the Congress of Vienna in the absence of the imprisoned King Friedrich August .

On October 18, 1815, Baron Reck accepted the hereditary homage from all Westphalian states in Münster on behalf of the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm . He died in 1816 in the capital of the newly formed Duchy of Saxony , in Merseburg.

Eberhard Freiherr von der Reck married Elise Dorothea Luise (Lisette) Freiin von Vincke , she was the sister of the Prussian minister Ludwig von Vincke . Their children together were:

  • Emilie Caroline Frederike (* February 16, 1790 - January 21, 1849) ⚭ 1813 Count Ludwig Ernst Friedrich Wilhelm von Münster-Langelage (* November 6, 1774 - May 9, 1824)

Freiherr von der Recke was a knight of the Black Eagle Order and the Royal Prussian Order of St. John .
