Ed Berger

Edward "Ed" Berger (born March 5, 1949 in Manhattan ; † January 22, 2017 in Princeton , New Jersey ) was an American university professor , jazz writer, record producer and photographer .

Live and act

Ed Berger's father Morroe Berger († 1981) taught sociology at Princeton University and was also active as a jazz researcher and author; Ed was initially the road manager of the band leader Benny Carter , on whose biography Benny Carter: A Life in American Music he participated. He also produced some of his later albums, such as In the Mood for Swing . From August 1976 Berger worked as a part-time curator at the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University , from 1977 as deputy director and from 1987 until his retirement in 2013 as associate director (co-director). He wrote the Joe Wilder biography Softly, With Feeling: Joe Wilder and the Breaking of Barriers in American Music (2014). He also worked as the author of numerous liner notes and as a photographer for productions a. a. by Randy Sandke , Loren Schoenberg , Dick Sudhalter and Warren Vaché . Berger died at the age of 67.
