Ed Henry

Ed Henry (born March 30, 1921 in St. Cloud , Minnesota , † September 30, 2010 ) was an American political scientist , university professor and local politician .

Life

After attending Cathedral High School , he first studied at Saint John's University in Collegeville , graduating in 1943. He then did his military service as an officer in the US Navy between 1943 and 1946 and served on a ship to rescue British and American prisoners of war from Formosa .

He then completed a postgraduate course in business administration at Harvard Business School and the University of Chicago with a Master of Arts (MA), a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and finally a doctorate .

In 1954 he became a professor and dean of the Faculty of Political Science chair at the Saint John's University and this function has held up the 1,971th In addition, he was temporarily vice president of the university. He was also the chairman of the St. Cloud School Board in the 1960s.

Between 1964 and 1970 he was a candidate of the Democratic Party at the same time the mayor of St. Cloud. During his tenure, the Municipal Athletic Complex was built , the airport was relocated and the municipal housing company was founded. Its urban renewal program led to the city receiving the 1973 All-America City Award . With funds from the Ford Foundation , he was able to support the work of the Center for the Study of Local Government from 1968 to 1979 , the first center for the study of small towns in the USA. He also promoted the cooperation between Saint John's University, the College of Saint Benedict and St. Cloud State University . Successor as mayor in 1970 was Democrat Al Loehr , who was in office until 1980 and thus accompanied Henry's further work.

He then resumed teaching and was president of Saint Mary's College in Indiana between 1972 and 1974 , before founding the faculty of development at Saint John's University in 1974 and then dean until 1976. He was then President of Saint Michael's College in Vermont and held this position until his retirement in 1985. Subsequently, however, he was president of the Marian College of Fond du Lac from 1986 to 1989 and interim president of Belmont Abbey College in North Carolina between 1989 and 1990 .

He was also the Administrative Director of the Community Foundation in the 1980s . He later served as an advisor to the current Mayor of St. Cloud, Dave Kleis .

He summarized his experiences in the book Micropolis in Transition , a study of the small town of St. Cloud in 1971.
