Ed Leddy
Edward H. "Ed" Leddy Jr. (* around 1930 ; † July 4, 2006 in Wayne (New Jersey) ) was an American jazz musician ( trumpet ).
Live and act
Leddy came from a family of entrepreneurs who owned Leddy Fuel and Oil Co. in Hillsdale. Ed Leddy attended Westwood High School. While still at school, he received an offer to become a trumpeter in the Charlie Spivak Orchestra, which was performing at the Paramount Theater in New York City. During his military service he was a soloist in an army band; then he was first trumpeter with the National Symphony in Washington, DC In the following years he played in the Les and Larry Elgart Orchestra; he also accompanied Charlie Parker ( One Night in Washington ) and Bud Powell in the Joe Timer Orchestra in 1953 . In 1955 he played with Dizzy Gillespie and then moved to the west coast to work as lead trumpeter with Stan Kenton and from 1956 also with Maynard Ferguson . He was also involved in the recording of numerous West Coast jazz musicians , such as Richie Kamucaa / Bill Holman ( Jazz Erotica , 1957), Gerry Mulligan , Conte Candoli , Marty Paich , Med Flory , Mel Lewis , Don Fagerquist , Lennie Niehaus , Red Norvo , Shorty Rogers , Johnny Mandel , Howard Rumsey 's Lighthouse All Stars and on recordings by Ella Fitzgerald , Patti Page , Nat King Cole , Ann Richards , June Christy and Frank Sinatra . He was also active in the film studios, to be heard for example in the film music for Funny Face . In the field of jazz he was involved in 71 recording sessions between 1953 and 1958.
