Eddie Allen (born July 12, 1957 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin ) is an American jazz trumpeter and flugelhorn player .

Eddie Allen, who also goes by the names EJ Allen, Eddie EJ Allen, EJ "Eddie" Allen, studied trumpet in Milwaukee and began his career with Charlie Persip . He has also worked with Muhal Richard Abrams , Lester Bowie , Art Blakey , Benny Carter , Chico Freeman , Dizzy Gillespie , Houston Person , Bobby Previte , Mongo Santamaría , Marty Ehrlich and Randy Weston and Onaje Allan Gumbs : Remember Their Innocence (2005). He also played in the New York Composers Orchestra ( First Program In Standard Time ). Under his own name he presented a series of albums for Enja , in which he a. a. played with Teodross Avery , Dan Faulk and Cindy Blackman . In 2008 the big band album Groove's Mood was created with veterans like Cecil Bridgewater , Sam Burtis and Howard Johnson . He currently leads a quintet that includes Bruce Williams , Misha Tsiganov , Kenny Davis and Jerome Jennings .
