Musician

He played lead guitar for the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section from 1967 to 1971 . As a session musician, he has appeared on recordings of various stars, including Wilson Pickett , Arthur Conley , Aretha Franklin , Joe Tex , Solomon Burke , Percy Sledge , The Staple Singers , The Dells , Elvis Presley , The Box Tops , Boz Scaggs and Otis Redding .

For Percy Sledge he wrote the hits Cover Me and It's All Wrong But It's Alright, among others .

Career

As a singer, Hinton has been compared to soul and rhythm & blues greats. So he was referred to in contemporary reports as "the white Otis Redding". He first played in smaller bands in the southern states before joining the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. For this secure career as an employed musician, he turned down Duane Allman's offer to become guitarist for the Allman Brothers Band .

In 1978 Eddie Hinton's first solo LP, Very Extremely Dangerous, was released . Despite good reviews, it was unsuccessful, not least due to the bankruptcy of the publishing record company Capricorn Records .

In the years that followed, Hinton fell silent. It was not until 1982 that he entered a recording studio again . However, the recordings initially remained unpublished. In 1986, more pieces were added and appeared as Letters From Mississippi . This release brought Hinton back into the music business and led, among other things, to a new record deal and later to a tour of Europe.

Two other albums, Cry and Moan and Very Blue Highway , respectively , were released in the early 1990s. Recordings on another album began in early 1995. Eddie Hinton died of a heart attack before it was released . Hard Luck Guy was released on the revived Capricorn label in 1999 .

The series The Songwriting Sessions has appeared on Zane in recent years , which contains previously unpublished recordings by Hinton from all phases of his career. Three issues have appeared so far.
