Mitch Stein

Mitch "Moose" Stein (* in Akron , Ohio ) is an American jazz guitarist.

The son of a classical pianist and a jazz trumpeter grew up in New York City , where he took guitar lessons from Allen Hanlon . He studied classical guitar in college and took classes with Oscar Ghiglia and Eliot Fisk at the Aspen Music Festival . He then studied jazz music with Rich Boukas and was promoted from 1982 by Brother Jack McDuff .

Stein was then a member of the band of drummer Victor Jones , where he performed with saxophonist Alex Foster , vibraphonist Joe Locke and bassist Tom Barney . In 1991 he met the Brazilian jazz pianist and singer Tânia Maria , with whom he worked for eight years and recorded several albums. Partners were musicians such as Don Alias , Anthony Jackson , Steve Gadd , Darryl Jones , Buddy Williams , Ricky Sebastian and Sergio Brandao .

Stein went on a European tour with David Sanborn , performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival and worked with musicians such as Cyndi Lauper , Jody Watley and Chaka Khan .

In 1993 he founded the group The Hermanators with Rodney Holmes and Kip Reed . In addition, he worked from 1996 with Adam Holzman and the band Brave New World and with the band of Bill Evans . In 2000 he became a member of Don Alias' All Stars , in 2001 a member of the Steve Kimock Band . He has also recorded with Karl Latham , Ron Trent , Jeff Rupert , Bernard Lavilliers , Michael Brecker , Mike Stern and Peter Erskine .
