history
On December 7th, 1903 the buying association of the colonial goods traders zu Kiel eGmbH was founded by 17 members.
In 1907 the Association of German Commercial Cooperatives, today's EDEKA Association, was founded in the Hôtel de Pologne in Leipzig . The central purchasing cooperative of the Association of German Commercial Cooperatives eGmbH, today's EDEKA Zentrale AG & Co. KG, was also founded.
EDEKA Neumünster was founded in 1916. In 1988 the Neumünster-Hamburg-Lüneburg wholesalers merged to form EDEKA Handelsgesellschaft Nord mbH.

The object of the company is to create economically sound, viable businesses of independent entrepreneurs in the medium-sized food retail sector and related professional groups, to promote and maintain them.
In 2019, the local supplier had a group turnover of more than 3.1 billion euros. The retail trade is supplied from the three logistics centers in Neumünster , Malchow and Zarrentin .
EDEKA Nord is the parent company of various smaller retail companies as well as the production company NORDfrische Center (meat and sausage products) based in Valluhn and the SB-Warenhaus GmbH. The regional company sells its own product line with the regionally oriented own brand "Unser Heimat - Echt & Gut".
