Edgar Schnell (politician)

Edgar Schnell (born October 26, 1896 in Blankenese ; † October 29, 1974 ) was a German politician ( CDU ) and a member of the Hessian state parliament .

Life

After attending secondary school, Edgar Schnell did military service from 1914 to 1917 and then studied philosophy, literature and history in Göttingen , Hamburg and Munich . He completed his studies in 1921 with a doctorate and state examination and worked as a teacher in Hamburg until 1929. In 1929 he was retired because of serious war damage and has worked as a freelance writer ever since. From 1940 to 1945 he was hired as the main clerk in the Presidium of the Reich Air Protection Association.

Schnell was a member of the NSDAP since December 1, 1939 ( membership number 7.304.125). After the Second World War , he was classified as a follower as part of the denazification on October 4, 1947 . The appeal against this decision was successful: With the appeal decision of November 9, 1948, the classification was changed to "exonerated".

Schnell joined the CDU after the war and was local chairman there from 1946, district chairman from 1950 and member of the state executive committee and the federal party committee of the CDU in 1954. From 1948 he was a member of the district council in the Eschwege district . From December 1, 1954 to November 30, 1958, he was a member of the Hessian state parliament. From 1953 he was deputy director of the Eschwege adult education center .
