Edith Krappe

Edith Krappe , b. Löblein (born November 13, 1909 in Lichtenberg ; † March 17, 2006 there ), was a German politician of the SPD .

Life and work

Edith Krappe was the seventh child of a carpenter from Bavaria who joined the SPD in 1875 and who had moved to Berlin. After graduating from high school, she completed a commercial apprenticeship in a Jewish clothing company on Spittelmarkt , to which she remained as an accountant until the shop closed in 1939. Krappe was involved in the Central Employees ' Association, where he took on functions and continued his education in courses.

After the Second World War , Krappe worked as a career counselor. After the division of Berlin , she moved from Friedrichshain to Schöneberg , where she lived until her death.

Political party

In the Weimar Republic , Krappe became a member of the SPD in 1928 and was involved at the local level.

In May 1945 the local SPD organization was re-established in her apartment in Friedrichshain, where she grew up. She campaigned against the forced unification of the SPD and KPD to form the SED . She later rose to the state executive. After Franz Neumann , state chairman and close friend of Krappes, lost his power, hers also narrowed down. In the elections in the Berlin House of Representatives to the German Bundestag in 1957, Krappe was elected in the third ballot with a relatively poor result.

City Council of Greater Berlin (1946–1950)

Taken up as a candidate in the first elections to the city ​​council of Greater Berlin in 1946, she did not expect a seat, but was in parliament because of the good SPD election results. In 1948 she became a member of the board of the SPD parliamentary group of the city council. In addition, she was elected managing director of the SPD parliamentary group.

Berlin House of Representatives (1950–1957)

After the division of the city and after the new Berlin constitution came into force in the former western sectors, Krappe was elected to the Berlin House of Representatives in 1950 . In the 1st electoral term (1950–1954) she was the chairman of the Audit Committee and the deputy chairman of the Committee on Home Affairs. In the 2nd electoral period from 1954 Krappe was the chairman of the main committee and the deputy chairman of the audit committee. In the (new) SPD parliamentary group in the House of Representatives, she was elected deputy parliamentary group leader. She was also elected leader of the SPD parliamentary group. Before the end of the second electoral term, Krappe left the Berlin House of Representatives in 1957 because of the election to the Bundestag.

German Bundestag (1957–1972)

After the election for the third electoral term of the German Bundestag on October 15, 1957, Krappe became a member of the Bundestag in Berlin . She was a member of the German Bundestag until 1972. She made a name for herself as a proven household expert.
