Edith Niehuis

Edith Niehuis (born Janßen ; born August 2, 1950 in Goelriehenfeld ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

From 1998 to 2002 she was Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth .

Life and work

After high school in 1969 Edith Niehuis completed a teaching degree in Oldenburg and Göttingen , which they in 1972 with the first state examination for teaching at elementary schools and after another study at the College of Education of Lower Saxony in 1977 as a graduate - teacher ended. In 1983 she received her doctorate as Dr. phil. at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen .

From 1973 to 1976 Edith Niehuis was a research assistant at the Paritätisches Bildungswerk. She then worked as a pedagogical assistant at the Folk High School Jägerei Hustedt until 1979 and at the rural Folk High School Mariaspring from 1980 to 1987. From 1982 to 1986 she was a member of the board of the Lower Saxony Regional Association of Folk High Schools . From 2007 to 2010 she was a lecturer at the Otto Suhr Institute , the Institute for Political Science at the Free University of Berlin . In 2016 she was elected President of the Association of Former Members of the German Bundestag and the European Parliament.

Edith Niehuis is married and has two children.

Political party

She has been a member of the SPD since 1972 and has held various board positions in the party and the AsF. From 1987 to 2001 she was a member of the SPD district executive in Hanover and was a member of the SPD party council for several years.

MPs

From 1987 to 2002 Edith Niehuis was a member of the German Bundestag . Here she was chairwoman of the Committee for Women and Youth from 1990 to 1994 and of the Committee for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth from 1994 to 1998 .

Edith Niehuis has always entered the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the constituency of Northeim - Osterode , most recently in 1998 with 56.8%.

Public offices

On October 27, 1998, she was appointed Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth in the Federal Government led by Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schröder . After the federal election in 2002 , she left office on October 22, 2002.
