Edith Windsor
Edith Windsor (born June 20, 1929 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † September 12, 2017 in New York City ) was an American LGBT activist.
Life
Windsor worked as an IT manager at the US company IBM . Windsor was the lead plaintiff in the Windsor v . United States trial . As a result of this lawsuit, which was brought up to the United States Supreme Court , same-sex marriage became law in the United States in June 2015. Her first marriage was to Saul Windsor. The marriage ended in divorce. In 2007 she entered into a civil partnership with Thea Clara Spyer, who died in 2009. In 2016 she married Judith Kasen.
