The Edition The cheerful living room is an Austrian Literature Publishing .

History and conception

The publishing house was founded in 1986 in Vienna by Ilse Kilic and Fritz Widhalm . Right from the start, the focus of the edition was on so-called experimental literature , i.e. non-narration , visual and concrete poetry, texts with a clear focus on the formal area.

The first publication, entitled Book, presents anonymous texts by 40 authors. Using a numbering system, the reader can find out who wrote which text. The problem of the name as a trademark and as a perception-shaping component of the text should be discussed. Shortly afterwards, Important appeared. Kunst von Frauen a documentation of a symposium of the same name at the Graz Authors' Assembly with contributions by Friederike Mayröcker , Elfriede Gerstl , Heidi Pataki and others

Since then, numerous books have been published by primarily Austrian authors, including Franzobel , Christine Huber , Lisa Spalt , Peter Pessl and Petra Ganglbauer , but also visual poetry by the Russian authors Rea Nikonova and Serge Segay .

The publishing house is still trying to sound out various concepts of experimental literature.

The publisher also sees itself as part of a cultural network. Accordingly, great value is placed on friendly cooperation, joint projects with other small publishers and mutual support. Every year the publisher organizes the book show xxx-small with other Viennese small publishers such as Freeboard , Herbstpresse , Edition Exil , Edition zzoo , Edition ch and Edition Die Donau down .

Artist magazine

From 1990 to 2015, the artist magazine Living Room was published once or twice a year in the edition The Happy Living Room. Magazine for unusable texts and images .
