Werner Herbst

Werner Herbst (born on January 20, 1943 in Vienna ; died on March 17, 2008 there ) was an Austrian poet and storyteller, radio play writer, visual poet and publisher.

Life

Herbst studied at the Pedagogical Academy in Vienna and then worked as a primary school teacher for 20 years .

His first texts appeared in 1970 in the Viennese literary magazine wespennest and the Linz magazine neue texte . In the following years he took part in Vostell's response happening and published texts in anthologies (for example, octopus 16) and magazines such as orte and in NEUES FORVM . He also wrote radio plays for ORF . His visual poetry has been exhibited in Vienna, Linz, Madrid and Bondeno .

In 1971 he founded the Herbstpresse publishing house , which published single-sheet prints , paperbacks, tape cassettes, notebooks and boxes with graphics by Friederike Mayröcker , Karl Riha , Hannes Vyoral and Gerald Bisinger , among others .
