from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jürg Jegge (born July 29, 1943 in Zurich ) is a Swiss educator and author . He has also worked as a songwriter, television presenter and radio staff member.

Act

Jegge was a primary school teacher and a special school teacher in Embrach in the Zürcher Unterland for 20 years . His first work, Dummheit ist lernbar , appeared in 1976 and became a bestseller with more than 200,000 copies sold; For a long time it was considered a standard work of reform pedagogy and stood for pedagogy without constraints. The original German version was published in 28th editions until 2007 and has also been translated into several languages. To this day, Jegge has remained a sharp critic of the Swiss school system, accusing it of beating all children over a ledge and putting too much emphasis on their weaknesses. He advocates the thesis that training programs should be adapted to people and their individual strengths and not the other way around.

In 1985 he founded the Märtplatz Foundation in Freienstein , a vocational integration center for young people with «starting difficulties». After 26 years as Märtplatz manager , Jegge retired in 2011 and became honorary president of the foundation. Since then, Kuno Stürzinger has headed the Märtplatz .

Jegge lives in Rorbas and Vienna .

Sexual abuse of underage students

In April 2017, Jegge's former student Markus Zangger, together with the journalist Hugo Stamm, published the book Jürg Jegge's dark side, in which he accused him of years of sexual and psychological abuse. From a legal point of view, the attacks in the case of Markus Zangger over 30 years ago were statute-barred.

Jegge subsequently admitted to the media that there had been sexual contacts with Markus Zangger and other students, with a total of “less than ten”. He saw it as a form of therapy for children within the framework of reform pedagogy . He would no longer use this type of therapy today.

After the Board of Trustees distanced itself from Jegge, he resigned as Honorary President of the Märtplatz Foundation . The Zytglogge-Verlag , with which most of Jegge's books were published, stopped working with him. The public prosecutor dropped the child abuse proceedings against Jegge due to the statute of limitations, the costs were charged to Jegge by the public prosecutor, against which he first objected, but then accepted.
