Edmar Castañeda (* 31 March 1978 in Bogotá ) is a Colombian Jazz - harpist .

Live and act

Edmar Castañeda combines elements of Colombian and Venezuelan music in his music, such as: B. the Joropo , but also Argentine traditions, such as the Zamba and other Latin American influences with jazz. The musician who was born in Bogotá has lived and worked in New York since 1994 . In 2006 his debut album Cuarto de Colores was released (with Paquito D'Rivera and Marshall Gilkes ), followed by Entre Cuerdas , with guitarist John Scofield and vibraphone player Joe Locke as guests. He has also worked with Wynton Marsalis , John Patitucci , Marcus Miller , Giovanni Hidalgo , Lila Downs , Janis Siegel , Chico O'Farrill , Bruno Böhmer Camacho and The United Nations Orchestra.

In 2010, Castañeda was included in the Rising Stars category by the Down Beat critics poll ; that same year he was recognized at the JJA Awards of the Jazz Journalists Association in the category of player rarely used instruments . Edmar Castañeda worked with a trio of Shlomi Cohen (saxophone) and Dave Silliman (drums) in 2012. Together with the pianist Hiromi Uehara , the album Live in Montreal was created in 2017 ; In 2019 he released the album Harp versus Harp with the harmonica virtuoso Grégoire Maret .
