Eduard Claucig

Eduard Claucig (born March 19, 1950 in Waidhofen an der Ybbs ; † May 13, 2013 in Linz ) was an Austrian composer , conductor and choir director .

Live and act

Eduard Claucig graduated from Waidhofen an der Ybbs in 1968 and studied from 1968 to 1972 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna , where he graduated with a diploma in church music , conductor and double bass .

He composed works for choir and organ , other instrumentals, songs and seven masses. As a student, at the age of 21, he won the International Prize for Organ Improvisation in Kiel .

He was the leading double bass player with the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich (1972/73), choirmaster at the Graz Opera (1973 to 1977) and répétiteur and conductor at the Landestheater Linz (1977 to 1983).

He taught as a lecturer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (1976/1977) and at the University Mozarteum Salzburg (1983/1984) and as a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (1983).

In 1987 he founded the Sinfonietta Linz orchestra as a youth orchestra and has directed it ever since. His voluntary work in the field of church music extended to the parishes of Marcel Callo and St. Franziskus in Linz.

The father of three children was awarded the Culture Medal of the City of Linz in 2007.

Works

Claucig's works can mainly be assigned to chamber music and vocal music and were created in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.
