Eduard Dorer-Egloff (born November 7, 1807 in Baden ; † March 27, 1864 there ; entitled to live in Baden; also referred to in literature as Edward Dorer-Egloff or Ignaz Eduard Dorer ) was a Swiss politician , judge , writer and poet . From 1837 to 1842 he was Councilor of the Canton of Aargau . His father Franz Dorer was also a member of the cantonal government.

biography

After visiting Ignaz Paul Vitalis Troxler's «teaching association» in Aarau , Dorer studied law at the Albert Ludwig University in Freiburg im Breisgau . After completing his studies, he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Aargau in 1832. Following the example of his father, who was then a member of the cantonal government, he resolutely advocated the ideas of liberalism and demanded the subordination of the church to the state. In 1834 he was one of the initiators of the conference at which the Baden articles were decided.

Also in 1834, Dorer rose to be President of the Baden District Court. In 1837 the Grand Council elected him to the cantonal government. Although he resisted the influence of the monasteries, he tried to prevent the situation from getting worse. Nonetheless, on January 13, 1841, he agreed to Augustin Keller's motion to abolish the Aargau monasteries. With his request to pardon the leaders of the uprising that had led to the Aargau monastery dispute, he was unsuccessful.

Dorer retired from public life in 1842 and has since worked as a private teacher, poet and writer. As a proven Goethe specialist, he built up an important library with Goethe as a collection focus through purchase and exchange . He was in correspondence with many writers of his time. In 1843 he published the complete works of Luise Egloff , the sister of his wife Elise.
