Eduard Fischer von Röslerstamm (born June 4, 1848 in Wilhelmsdorf near Vienna, † May 22, 1915 in Gippe near Elsterberg) was an Austrian writer and autograph collector.

biography

Eduard Fischer Edler von Röslerstamm d. J. was the son of the manufacturer and alpinist of the same name (* May 20, 1814 in Nixdorf in Northern Bohemia; † September 5, 1879 in Vienna ). After completing school in Vienna, he studied in Vienna and Innsbruck. During his studies he became a member of the Arminia fraternity in Vienna in 1866 and of the Teutonia Vienna fraternity in 1868 . After completing his studies, he first went to Berlin and Hamburg as a journalist . From 1872 to 1881 he lived in Stettin as editor of the Oder-Zeitung and later the Neue Stettiner Zeitung . In 1878 he married Ida Bertha Gersiek in Dresden .

In 1881 the young couple moved to Graz . It was there that Fischer founded his magazine “Mittheilungen für Autographensammler”, which appeared in ten volumes from 1884 and mostly contained articles from his own pen. In 1887 he published his "address book for autograph and portrait collectors". His friends included the important autograph collectors Alfred Bovet (1841–1900), Alexander Meyer Cohn (1853–1904) and Stefan Zweig (1881–1942) as well as the writer Rudolf Borchardt (1877–1945). Through his magazine and numerous articles in the "Zeitschrift für Bücherfreunde" he acquired the reputation of an "old master" of collecting autographs and as one of the best experts on this subject. He died during a stay at the “Pomona” sanatorium in Gippe near Elsterberg in Saxony. His extensive collection was auctioned off by List & Francke in Leipzig in 1911 and 1913; The unsold and smaller pieces went to the antiquarian bookshops VA Heck in Vienna and David Salomon in Berlin.
