Julius Eduard Erdmann Ernst-August Prince of Anhalt (born December 3, 1941 in Ballenstedt ) is a German journalist and book author as well as the head of the Ascanians .

biography

Eduard Prinz von Anhalt is the youngest son of Joachim Ernst von Anhalt , the last Duke of Anhalt , and his second wife Edda-Charlotte Marwitz. The marriage had five children: Marie Antoinette, Anna Luise, Leopold Friedrich Franz, Edda and Eduard. Eduard became chief of the Askanians in 1963 after the accidental death of his older brother Friedrich. His birthplace and parents' house was Ballenstedt Castle .

After fleeing the Soviet occupation zone, the family lived in the Protestant women's monastery in Ebstorf in the Lüneburg Heath until 1951 and then moved to Garmisch-Partenkirchen . After finishing secondary school and completing basic military service in the armed forces, Eduard attended a business and language school in Málaga . After spending several years in Spain , Eduard went to the USA in 1964 and worked in public relations and advertising. He returned to Germany in 1967 and completed traineeships at Deutsche Bank in Munich and at the trading company Klöckner & Co in Regensburg and Duisburg .

After reunification, he tried hard to regain confiscated family assets in Saxony-Anhalt after the Second World War. He sold the Röhrkopf hunting lodge near Ballenstedt Castle, which he had bought back , in 2013.

Prince von Anhalt became known as a society journalist and columnist for numerous German magazines such as Frau im Spiegel and as a guest on talk shows such as Riverboat , nachtstudio (ZDF) and 3 nach 9 . He also moderated television programs for various broadcasters, including the RTL program Adel committed . In 2011 he commented on the live broadcast of the wedding of William Mountbatten-Windsor and Catherine Middleton for RTL and the change of throne in the Netherlands in 2013 for ZDF .

Marriage and children

On July 21, 1980, Prince von Anhalt married Corinna Krönlein (born August 19, 1961 in Würzburg) in Munich , the daughter of a painter and a doctor. The marriage was divorced in November 2015. The marriage produced three daughters. In 2010, as head of the house, Prince von Anhalt changed the house law and introduced female inheritance, which makes his eldest daughter his successor.

Honorary positions

Prince von Anhalt is the patron of the “Anhalt Traditional Rifle Association” in Wörlitz and Grand Master of the Duke of Anhalt House Order Albrecht the Bear. He was president of the association “Deutsche Lebensbrücke e. V. ”in Munich and member of the board of the Almanach de Gotha in London .
