Edward Binns

Edward Binns (born September 12, 1916 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † December 4, 1990 in Brewster , New York ) was an American actor.

Life

After attending Pennsylvania State University , Edward Binn's first acting experience was at the Cleveland Play House . During World War II, he served in the Army Air Forces . From the late 1940s he worked as an actor in various Broadway productions and was a member of the famous Actors Studio .

Edward Binns was valued as a reliable character actor who was credible in his roles. From the early 1950s, Binns was regularly in front of the camera, and in the following decades he made around 175 film and television appearances. Perhaps his best-known movie role is that of Juror No. 5, a down-to-earth worker, in Sidney Lumet's drama The Twelve Jurors (1957). He also worked as a supporting actor in other film classics such as The Invisible Third , The Judgment of Nuremberg and Patton - Rebel in Uniform . He also had appearances in various television series, including recurring in the series MASH as General Korshak. In the series Your Appearance, Al Mundy , Binns took on the role of Robert Wagner's superior Wallie Powers between 1969 and 1970 . He made his last film appearance in 1988 in the low-budget drama school After School alongside Sam Bottoms .

Edward Binns was married to the actress Elizabeth Franz until his death . He died of a heart attack while driving from Manhattan to his home in Connecticut at age 74 .
