Edward Thomas Funk (* 1936 in Queens , New York City ; † October 8, 2016 ) was an American tattoo artist who made it nationally famous under the name Crazy Philadelphia Eddie . He organized the first tattoo conventions in the USA and founded the first American tattoo association, the National Tattoo Club of the World, in 1976.

Edward Funk got his first tattoo at the age of 15, it was a skull. In 1952, he started working for a tattoo artist named Brooklyn Blackie, also known as Electric Rembrandt. After a short time he opened a studio on Rockaway Peninsula with Lou Rubino . He later ran his own studio in Coney Island . After the New York Health Department banned tattooing after several cases of hepatitis and closed the studios in 1961 , Funk moved to Philadelphia , opened a studio and founded a tattoo equipment company, the United Tattoo Supply Company.

In 1976, Funk co-founded and first president of the National Tattoo Club of the World, renamed the National Tattoo Association in 1978. In 2008 he played a. a. starring Don Ed Hardy and Lyle Tuttle in the documentary Hori Smoku Sailor Jerry : The Life of Norman K. Collins . In 2009, Funk participated in the Skin and Bones: Tattoos in the Life of the American Sailor exhibition at the Independence Seaport Museum in Philadelphia .
